Let’s kickstart this blog with a piece of art that is inspired from its namesake: The Golden Ratio.

Widely known as the divine proportion, it is the ratio between two numbers that equals to 1.618:1 and is strongly associated with the Fibonacci Sequence. In art, the golden ratio has been used extensively as a principle of composition and aesthetics, incorporated by nearly all designers, artists and architects to achieve a sense of balance and harmony, in their work.

In this artwork specifically, a  rectangle is drawn initially, whose length to width ratio is equal to the value of the Golden Ratio. Upon dividing this rectangle into a square, another rectangle is produced, which can further be divided in a similar manner i.e. producing rectangles and squares. After continuing this process an arbitrary number of times, the result will be an almost complete partitioning of the rectangle into comparable - smaller squares. Later, quarter circles have been used to join the corner of these squares. The outcome results in the Golden Spiral. The Golden Spiral, thus derived from the Golden Ratio, not only has a pleasing affect on the eye but helps curate visually captivating compositions. It is a lesser known fact that the golden ratio is also associated with the idea of the cosmic harmony due to its satisfying nature!
